TTT: An insight into Synesthesia

When I was around twelve years old I read a book called "A Mango Shaped Space", which was about a girl with synesthesia, a phenomenom in which you connect colors with shapes or letters, or both, and the experience of losing her cat, Mango. It was heartbreaking but at the same time totally interesting, hearing for the first time about that amazing thing which is synesthesia. Later on in my course of studies in school, in my Theory of Knowledge class, I learned about perception and was even further fascinated about this phenomenom. Daniel Tammet illustrates how a synesthetic person sees the world and it's beyond ashtonishing. Hope you enjoy the talk!

TTT: Hard choices

My Studienkolleg has come to an end, and now I have to take a decision on probably the hardest of choices: which career to pursue. Obviously I've thought about it before, and I've crossed things out that I know for sure I dislike. But my options remain open because I'm prone to like whatever I'm doing at the moment, and forget about it the minute I stop. Suddenly I think to myself, what if the same thing happens to me while in the middle of my studies? What if from night to day I decide I'm bored of the career I chose and I want to do another? How do I choose the right path?

TTT: Why people need Poetry

Ever since I was a child I've been in a close relationship with literature. But more than reading books, I loved reading and memorizing poets. The poems that got to me, I couldn't let them go so I made them a part of myself and wanted to share that part with others. (Of course nobody actually listened). I can never encourage enough reading poetry.

 

TTT: Stop learning and start thinking

My apologies for missing last week's TTT. My roomie showed me this video the other day and it just blew my mind. I think as adults sometimes we miss the real important facts and the root details of situations life. We fight to follow the line, we struggle to learn what my neighbor learns, we overthink. Sometimes the answer lies in our head and we're just too busy being society's little puppet to realize we ourselves are a world of our own. Jacob's message to me was pretty clear: we study to know what people have created, but we should also strive to create ourselves. And not just a blog, or a little company to make our financial lives a little bit easier, but to contribute to humankind.

TED Talk Tuesday

Today's talk is on psychiatry, a topic I'm currently very interested about and of which I'm learning a lot. The human mind is one of mankind's wonder, and we can never know for sure what's going on in someone's head for we cannot put ourselves in their body and experience it; instead, we remark behaviour and deeds that can be the consequences of this or that disorder. This talk is specially insightful because it lets us see how biased psychologist can address patients and how we're all indeed a bit crazy.

TED Talk Tuesday: Single stories

We live in a world ruled by the media, in which we should learn to discern between facts and fallacies. And if there is something I've learned throughout the years is that there is no whole truth. There is no black and white, there are infinite colors in endless shades that make up the beautiful world we live in. Don't feed your brain with a single color, for you are missing the most natural nuance of life: it's diversity. This talk made me think about how I always do read stories of white, blue-eyed characters that eat apples and speak foreign languages. As much as I love the reading books from all around the world, I've lost my literary connection to my own land. And I must not forget. I will not forget. Will you?

It got me thinking for days what I'm doing with my life, how efficiently I'm using my time, my energy, the internet, and I found myself drawing a set of goals and actually giving myself that push to make my dreams happen.
